Nostalgia is described as a bittersweet longing for the past, for something that cannot quite be returned to. Photography is inherently nostalgic in this way. It preserves what is fleeting, providing a window into beautiful moments that we may one day ache to return to. The feeling of home, the smile of a loved one, or the glittering night when you were young and in love and full hope for the future.

We tend to make these photographs at the very beginning of a life event - a wedding, a new baby, a child’s birthday. These are forward-looking moments, full of possibility and excitement, yet they are also the last moments of life as it was before. This interplay between past and present is what makes photography such a fascinating art form.

Somewhere in that interplay, the photographer’s eye becomes part of the memory. Like a fingerprint, each photographer has their own unique way of seeing and recording a moment, and in doing so they become beautifully intertwined with how it is remembered. This role is one that I approach with care, attention, artistry, and pure delight.
